Wolves and Cavaliers to start 2011

Another round
4 May 2011The Hungarian champions hosted their Turkish counterparts in a fierce battle Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers build their offense around their American and Serbian imports – RB Desmond Mays and WR/FS Igor Vukoje – causing some headaches for the Wolves defense. The Cavaliers’ first drive might have mislead the Wolves – the third offensive play resulted in an interception by Márton Iványi – but Mays’ agile running, Vukoje’s spectacular catches and some uncharacteristic penalties on the Hungarian defense kept the Turks in the game throughout.
The Wolves built a 13:7 halftime lead with two TD’s by Peter Cseperkáló that they extended to 19:7 on yet another scoring run by the powerful fullback in the third. Mays didn’t want to lose the TD battle to his Hungarian counterpart, punching his second in the third, pulling it within 5 for his new team. In the fourth the Cavaliers came close to taking over the lead, got inside the Wolves’ 20 yard line where a botched handoff was recovered by Uche Mbagwu. This proved to be the play of the game since the Hungarian offense marched 75 yards down to field to ensure victory on TD catch by Krisztián Piros.
The game was stopped for over 20 minutes just before halftime. Berkay Ülgün, who had a sack earlier, lay motionless on the field and was taken to hospital with the suspicion of a spine injury. According to Bahadir Irilgac team manager Ülgün was kept in the medical facility overnight as a precaution but he could return the next day with his teammates to Istanbul.
