CEFL BOWL XX announcement and live stream
26 June 2026The closure of the second decade of the CEFL Championship brought to Thonon-les-Bains a promise of a celebration bigger than a traditional bowl game. As if weighed by this fact, CEFL Bowl XX played out like it was holding a final, deliberate breath before it exhaled. It will be remembered for its tense defensive rhythm where every inch was fought over and every mistake very costly.
Thonon Black Panthers and Calanda Broncos have met again in the big game after they squared off in last season’s finale. Back then the French team had tasted CEFL Bowl glory for the first time in club history, while playing in hostile territory. Now it was time for the Swiss to reciprocate, trying to forget last-year experience and serve their revenge cold.
There are games that announce themselves early. This one didn’t, at least not in the way fans are conditioned to expect. Through the first two quarters, the scoreboard refused to cooperate with a usual storyline: the home team stayed scoreless, and the visitors managed only a single touchdown in the second period. Then, the context turned the volume up even further.
In the third quarter the Black Panthers finally found the end zone, leveling the score and injecting belief into the home crowd. But belief is only useful until it meets execution, and the Broncos answered with the kind of composure that separates contenders from closers. In the fourth period, the Swiss finishing punch arrived when it had to, stacking points late and transforming the scoreboard from “tight” to “decided.”
The Black Panthers had their chances and quite enough time to perform the same kind of miracle they pulled off in the national finals a week before. That time they came back from a 17 point deficit. Now they were fresh out. Their four giveaways rewrote the entire math of the game. Even though just one of them did the actual damage, the other three squandered their own scoring chances and wasted precious time. No team can do that in the bowl game and survive.
By the final whistle, the Broncos had made this anniversary finale mean a great deal not only for the CEFL Championship’s 20th season, but for their own club history. Their first CEFL Bowl crown after coming up empty in three prior finals changes the shape of their legacy. For the Black Panthers, the setback will sting, but it also reinforces a harsh truth: the margin for error in the bowl game gets smaller, and the trophy gets heavier every time you try to lift it.

The home team came out with a passing game, but they were quickly chased off the field. Sticking with what brought them to the finals, the Swiss turned to their signature running game this season. That fizzled out early as well.
Their short punt rapidly saw the French knocking on the door from the 2 yard line. Twice they tried to power ahead from a heavy set with their running back Lucas Davoine. Both times the visitors rebuffed them. Then, on a third down, Mateo Renteria went for the end zone, but his compatriot, Thomas Smith intercepted the ball.
Still, the turnover didn’t help the Broncos much. Short by a yard during their next offensive series, their rushers had to leave it to the punting unit again. That time, they pushed the rival further back.
In the second period the Black Panthers resorted to their own ground game and the visitors’ drive was weighed down by penalties. They both ended up alike – swapping punts.
A second turnover by the home team ensued when Steve Monteiro corralled the ball on a stop route. When he turned to run, linebacker Matthias Homolla forced a fumble on him and defensive lineman Christer Berg recovered.
Keeping close to the ground, Smith and Sennrich charged forward. On a designed run Sennrich sprinted off-tackle right, following the blockers in front and avoiding the safety for a 38 yard touchdown, 0-7.
Left with 1:08 on the clock before half time the Black Panthers aired it out but Renteria was picked once again. That time it was another one of his countrymen, linebacker Cole Brockwell. As the Broncos hurried to increase their bounty, time ran out on them.
After half-time adjustments the Black Panthers’ offense was more tenacious. Renteria connected with Aymeric Guillemaud and Pierre-Yves Dayres, and Davoine’s lengthy scamper set up a 36 yard field goal try. Right then an incautious visitors’ special team’s penalty led to the 1st down for the home team. Two tosses from Renteria to Dayres were enough to close the 10 yard distance to the opposing goal line and even up the score at 7-7.
Acting promptly, the Swiss blasted off in the last quarter. Sennrich zipped it to Selome Adzayi to extend the drive and ran the rock himself, before dialing up Ismael Schmid, who escaped two defenders for a 29 yard touchdown, 7-14.
Early in the fourth period the home team got the ball back, but the unrelenting Broncos’ defense forced a 3&out. When they took possession, Sennrich rushed repeatedly, taking time off the clock. Following a rivals’ penalty they found themselves 35 yards away from the goal. The very next play, Smith received a pitch from Sennrich behind the O-line, shook off multiple tacklers, and galloped to the house, for 7-21.
With 7:25 still to play the Blacks took to the air. Renteria spread the ball to Justin Marcus, Monteiro, and Guillemaud. They couldn’t get over a fourth turnover though. Davoine was stripped from the ball by Rory Nethercott and the Broncos’ Lucio Tettamanti jumped on it.
That was the final indignity. The visitors’ dogged groundwork spent all the time that was left, with Sennrich finally kneeling in victory formation.
CEFL Championship jubilee turned out to be triumphant for the Broncos. This is their premiere trophy in the 7 seasons they’ve been in the tournament. After 3 barren finals they kept at it and the richly deserved reward has finally come their way. The MVP of the CEFL Bowl XX was Broncos’ homegrown quarterback Robin Sennrich with 1 rushing and 2 passing touchdowns.
