New shot in Belgrade
29 March 2012
Ljubljana too strong for Zagreb
1 April 2012The CEFL Bowl last year wasn’t decided until the last minutes of the game – those who expected a similar outcome in the first game of this season between the same teams are maybe disappointed. But the home team’s fans are certainly not, as the SBB Vukovi showed no mercy and beat the Budapest Wolves 53-35 in Belgrade.
The Wolves, led by former Novi Sad Dukes’ quarterback Čaba Juhas kept pace until the third quarter, but the home team’s aerial attack sealed the deal in the second half. Lance Kriesien passed for 4 touchdowns and had a long 75 yard touchdown run that put the game out of reach for Budapest. With the score 47-28, Kriesien passed to Brandon McDowell for the Vukovi’s final points. The Wolves added a consolation touchdown before the game was officially over.
The SBB Vukovi scored first on a McDowell run, but the visitors took the lead 6-7 when Juhas passed to Krisztian Piros. Kriesien gave his team the lead back, passing for his first score to Filip Stojanović. The Wolves came back and tied it at 14, but it was the last time the score was tied as Stojanović returned the kickoff for a touchdown and a 20-14 lead.
Following another McDowell touchdown, the Wolves came as close as 28-21 on a touchdown run by Peter Lenner. The game was out of hand for his team after that – Kriesien passed for 2 more touchdowns and a 41-21 score.
The SBB Vukovi sit on top of the standings after their second game, with the record of 2-0. The Wolves are right behind at 1-1.
