CEFL becomes Sport Klub CEFL
26 March 2012
No drama this time
1 April 2012The SBB Vukovi Belgrade and the Budapest Wolves last met in July of 2011 in the biggest game of the year. It was the Wolves’ second bowl appearance and their second one point loss in the championship game. The rematch couldn’t come sooner, as the Vukovi host the Wolves in Belgrade this Saturday. The game will be played 5:30 PM CET.
The Zagreb Patriots lost their season opener and now get another chance, when they play in Ljubljana from 8PM, also on Saturday. The Silverhawks kickoff their season in which they are, if nothing else, a strong candidate to reach the bowl.
In an offseason where their biggest acquisition was their new coach Mark Garza, the Silverhawks must be having strong expectations. They already showed potential in some preseason games and Slovenian league games. The Patriots come to town for their second ever league game – it could be tough for them against a team with experienced local players and several new international players, including a new coach.
Still, the game of the weekend is surely the championship game rematch in Belgrade. The Wolves visit Serbia after a somewhat surprisingly convincing win on their turf against the Cineplexx Blue Devils. Despite being down 14 points early, the Wolves showed why they were in the finals last year, scoring 36 unanswered points.
Reuben Droughns, assistant coach for the SBB Vukovi agrees.
“I believe we’re up for the toughest challenge this season so far. We were met by a great challenge in the championship game with the Wolves at the end of last season and this team has some great players returning and good off season transitions, I heard great things about their new QB Juhas. Anyway, this will be great early season match up and a good game for the spectators to watch”, said Droughns.
Yes, one of the better known CEFL players to date, Čaba Juhas, is back in the league with the Wolves. He last played in 2009 with his old team, the Novi Sad Dukes. He passed for a touchdown against the Blue Devils, although it was his only completion of the game.
In any case, maybe he’s somebody that could help them finally beat the Vukovi.
