Reaching the finals
16 June 2011Silverhawks defend Slovenian title
6 July 2011The Budapest Wolves won the first game against the Ljubljana Silverhawks this seasonm winning 13-17 in Slovenia. And although they still have another game against the same opponent, they took the driver’s seat with the win – they have a head to had win now and would’ve been eliminated in case of a loss.
The depleted, to say the least, team of the Silverhawks fought maybe even beyond expectations, but it was not enough. Without their three best players they managed to get a lead in the third quarter, but the Wolves quickly regained control.
An ugly first half belonged to the Wolves, but they finished it only with a 3 point lead 0-3. The home team fans exploded at the beginning of the second half, as Matej Pavlič returned the kickoff over 90 yards for a touchdown and the lead.
It did not last, as the Wolves quickly marched down the field and took the lead on a Peter Cseperkalo run and soon delivered the final blow with their only touchdown pass of the game.
Although the Silverhawks managed another touchdown with minutes to go in the game, they failed to get in the position of the ball following the onside kick and the Wolves had no problems to run out the clock.
