Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns have hosted Örebro Black Knights in the second week of the CEFL Championship. Due to last-season’s corona measures, this was the first CEFL Championship game in Germany. It was played in front of around 1700 fans at the Optima Sportpark.

After all is said and done, the Swedish team was an equal rival in the first quarter but their game fell apart later. Short punts and interceptions ended most of their drives and the Unicorns took advantage of that. The game ended with a high point difference and the total score was 58-7. With this win the Unicorns are the first semifinalist of the CEFL Championship.

The Unicorns put the first points on the board with a 39 yard pass from Reilly Hennessey to Tyler Rutenbeck for a 7-0 lead.

Swedish team equalizer came quickly over Trevor Vasey’s 34 yard connection with Johannes Lindeus, 7-7. However, their early touchdown was all they could muster for the day. It was all Unicorns from then on.

Before the first period has ended, the same combo put another one in the books for the home team: Reilly Hennessey 76 yard pass to Tyler Rutenbeck for 14-7.

The visitors’ defense then forced a fumble and recovered it deep in opposing territory. As their offensive unit was getting closer to another tie Luis Bach thwarted those attempts with an interception and an 80 yard return to their house for 21-7.

Before half time Tim Stadelmayr upped the score by booting a 34 yard field goal for 24-7, and Christian Dietrich capped it off with a 1 yard spurt to the end zone for 31-7.

Swedes’ woes continued in the third section when Maurice Schüle broke through for a 22 yard scamper to raise the bar to 38-7. Another kick by Stadelmayr was true for a 38 yard score for 41-7. Unicorns’ Mitch Fettig had the final highlight before the quarter change intercepting another pass.

In the last period Stadelmayr placed a 35-yarder through the uprights for 44-7. Reilly Hennessey found new open receivers to up the score twice. One of his touchdown passes was hauled in by Leonell Fritzen for 51-7 and the finishing touch went to Aurieus Minton for the final 58-7. Giuseppe Della Vecchia added a third interception to garnish the great performance by the defensive unit as well.
