Final week’s musical chairs
5 June 2015
Race to the finals
24 June 2015In the last week of the regular part of the season the Silverhawks have hosted GAT Dukes, while the Blue Devils greeted SBB Vukovi.
The Silverhawks have kept up with the tradition of winning against GAT Dukes on home field but the final score of 20-13 secures a home field in the semifinals for both teams.
After their starting quarterbacks’ injury at the previous game, GAT Dukes’ backup signal-caller, William Powell, has found the way to the end zone first with a run of 14 yards. The Silverhawks have answered through a 30 yard run by Crepinsek and a 6 yard touchdown pass by Clark Evans to Matic Tomse. A rare defensive mistake by Silverhawks’ defense was enough for a big play by Powell, passing to Ivan Klaric for 68 yards. Evans has answered with a 30 yard pass to Eugen Sumic in the last drive before the half, coming close to GAT Dukes’ end zone but the score was unchanged at 6-13.
The Silverhawks were unfazed by their opponent’s lead at the half. Persistently keeping the drive alive they were able to cap it off with two Crepinsek’s runs of 20 and 9 yards to tie the score. On the next drive Powell has connected with Sinisa Bilic for 20 yards but his next long pass was intercepted by Sandi Holub 10 yards away from Silverhawks’ end zone. Taking advantage of that they have constructed another long drive, helped by opponent’s defensive pass interference on Tomse. Evans took off from there with a 20 yard pass to Andrej Copot and a run of 8 yards, finally powering through the defense for a 2 yard score. GAT Dukes had two more drives after that with no change of score.
In the second game this week the Blue Devils’ defense, riddled with injuries quickly folded to SBB Vukovi’s ground attack. SBB Vukovi were ahead by 21 points by the end of first quarter, scoring through running backs Mihailo Josovic and Marko Bakovic, as well as quarterback Miles Gates. However, he got hurt in the first half and the rest of the game SBB Vukovi offense was organized by the Serbian junior national team’s Dimitrij Jonev. That didn’t slow them down though as the game was finished with the final score 13-56.
This is SBB Vukovi’s second W of the season, aligning them with GAT Dukes and the Silverhawks in the number of wins, but their inferior point differential has kept them in the third spot. However, their win has promoted GAT Dukes to the leading position. They will host the Blue Devils again, while the second placed Silverhawks greet SBB Vukovi at home this time.
