Silverhawks defend Slovenian title
6 July 2011
The Wolves make it!
10 July 2011Although the two best teams of 2011 will play in the final to determine the league champion, Sunday’s game will play out almost like a playoff matchup. The Wolves host the Ljubljana Silverhawks on Sunday from 1PM in a game that will decide the second finals participant.
The Wolves survived elimination with a hard fought win in Ljubljana two weeks ago. Although the better team in that game, they overcame the struggling Silverhawks on two second half touchdowns. They came back to win the game, although they were stunned with a 95 yard touchdown run by Matej Pavlič.
They didn’t quit and survived – in almost all senses of the word. With a loss, they would’ve been eliminated, but now look to clinch the finals trip. Although it is yet to be decided, after losing the 2007 finals in Belgrade, they would likely be able to host the bowl game in Budapest, so they even have extra motivation.
For the Silverhawks, an extremely positive start to the season seems could possibly end in bitter disappointment, out of the finals. But considering their struggles, many felt that they wouldn’t have much of a chance, even in their last game at home. And considering that they had a chance in that game, they definitely have a chance still.
Both teams have a good chance to win the game, although it will come only with great sacrifices, especially with the high temperatures in Budapest in mind. The winner will take on the Vukovi, a team with an already secured number one spot.
