Vukovi win barely
10 April 2010The Budapest Wolves beat the Dukes in Novi Sad for the second straight year. This time it wasn’t a low scoring game – quite the opposite. Although the Dukes took the lead, in the end the Wolves take the win with a 20-34 score.
Although they scored 34 points, the Wolves can also thank their defense for the win. The Dukes had to play through 7 turnovers, so it’s hardly a surprise they lost. The home team took the lead in the first quarter on a run by Mario Šipurić, but the Wolves stormed back in the first half, scoring 19 unanswered points to build a lead they wouldn’t let go until the end of the game.
The Dukes didn’t score again until the fourth quarter when they reduced to 14-19, but they couldn’t manage anything better than to exchange scores with the visitors until the end of the game. Attila Lendvai answered with a touchdown pass to Csanad Kiraly, and after another Dukes’ score, Peter Cseperkalo scored for the second time in the game for the final 20-34.
The win is enough for the Wolves to take first place early in the season. Whether they keep it or not, depends on their next game, when they host the Vukovi, another team that won its season opener.
