Thunder no match for Devils
17 September 2009As one of the founding teams in the league, the Ljubljana Silverhawks’ first year was a mild disappointment. It turned out however, that it was maybe even their most successful campaign, as in the seasons after the first, they were even more out of the playoff race.
That’s all in the past however, as the Silverhawks recorded their 4th straight win this season, 33-19 over the Novi Sad Dukes. The Hawks completed the turnaround of the season that began with a close loss against the Dukes, mostly because of Joseph Bo Moncur, their running back, who made a big splash in his first real game in the CEFL.
While the stats are not in yet, Moncur might have broken the CEFL single game rushing record on the day, becoming yet another running back to run all over the Dukes. What is a fact is that he scored 4 touchdowns, including the first touchdown of the day.
Matevž Kirbus scored opncemore, but the Dukes wouldn’t hand the Silverhawks the lead in the conference that easily, as Marko Đanić brought the Dukes back into the game with two touchdowns of his own. Moncur was, however, too good for the Dukes on the day, giving his team the decisive points after that, scoring three times, while the Dukes could answer only with one score of their own.
While they haven’t yet clinched first place in the group, the Silverhawks did clinch a playoff spot, as they can’t finish lower than second in any scenario. They play the Gladiators this week at home, a team they beat by 39 two weeks ago, so first place is also in reach.
