Wanting a winning streak
29 April 2009Cowboys add another import
3 May 2009Although the Thunder scored 14 points this time, it still wasn’t much different from their first game, as they lost by 42 again, 14-56 to the Vukovi Belgrade. With a 35 lead at halftime, the Vukovi Belgrade slowed down, scoring just twice in the second half. Since both teams mostly ran the ball, it was one of the shortest games you’ll ever see — it was over in just under two hours.
The Thunder succeeded only in stopping the first Vukovi scoring attempt, but afterwards Belgrade scored on six straight first half possessions, opening a 0-42 lead. Brandon McDowell scored on the first carry of his team’s second drive, taking the ball 68 yards for a touchdown. Soon, he had two more, and it became clear the only thing that would be in doubt is the final score.
Jordan Green passed for two touchdowns in the second quarter, a 26 yard pass to Saša Petaković and one for 15 yards to Dejan Cerovac. In between, Uroš Milić ran for over 40 yards and a touchdown.
Zagreb reduced the score thanks to a good kickoff return, when Alen Keranović finally barely put the ball in the end zone for the score at half time. It wasn’t much different for the Thunder in the second half — Bogdan Đurđević recovered a fumble in the end zone and Marko Marković ran for a 2 yard touchdown and a 7-56 lead.
The final score was by the Thunder’s backup quarterback Luka Alaupović, who escaped for a 50 yard touchdown.
