Second chance
23 April 2009The Novi Sad Dukes got their second win of the season, after beating the Budapest Cowboys 56-20 last Saturday. Two weeks since their convincing win in Ljubljana, the Cowboys failed to meet expectations, in what was expected to be a hard fought game.
Receiver Jovan Plećaš continued his hot streak, catching two 40 yard touchdown passes early on that pulled the Dukes away for good. The home team was up 35-6 at the break, stunning not only the Cowboys, but all those that expected a more challenging contest for the Dukes.
Plećaš caught two touchdowns after collecting 20 catches in just two games, but Čaba Juhas also played a killer game for the second time in a row. He played the entire game taking advantage of the fact Rastko Jokić was unavailable for the game, setting a new career and CEFL high with six touchdowns, five passing and one rushing. Other than Plećaš, he passed to Aleksandar Vujinović, and twice to Siniša Bilić.
After Plećaš’ first touchdown, running back Marko Đanić scored on a punt return for a 14 point first quarter lead. The Dukes just kept adding more and more reaching 27-0 in the first half, and the Cowboys could only reply with three total touchdowns. The players that led them in Ljubljana showed up again — Andre Bynoe ran for a touchdown and Gabor Kalovits caught two — but it wasn’t nearly enough.
