Silverhawks again national champs
5 July 2012The SBB Vukovi Belgrade beat the Budapest Wolves easy in this year’s first semifinal game. The final score was 35-14 and with the win, the Vukovi will play in their seventh straight CEFL Bowl with a chance to win their fourth straight and fifth overall title.
They have kept several other streaks alive, by beating the Wolves along with defending their home field once again. Both streaks span over a period of six years.
If it wasn’t clear in the first half, the Vukovi officially closed out the game in the third quarter. Two runs, along with a 65 yard pass to Marko Marić, from quarterback Lance Kriesien put the Vukovi on top 20-0. The Wolves managed to make it slightly interesting in the first half, scoring a touchdown when Dávid Récsey connected with Gábor Kalovits, bringing the score down to 20-7.
It was however over in the third, when Sava Petrović intercepted a pass and took it all the way. It didn’t take long before Kriesien found his way to the end zone once again for a 35-7 lead. The Wolves managed one more score in the fourth, but it was enough to make the loss perhaps slightly more bearable.
The SBB Vukovi now wait for the result from Ljubljana this week, where the second seeded Silverhawks host the third seeded Cineplexx Blue Devils. This game will be played on Saturday.
