Wolves win in Slovenia
23 June 2011Since one team has already clinched the finals spot, it’s quite clear that both the Silverhawks and the Wolves can’t make it to the title game. Luckily, they have two games to sort it out, with the first one being played in Lendava on Sunday, almost the most west point of Slovenia.
The location is ideal not only for ist vicinity to Budapest – the Wolves will need just a few hours to reach it, but also because of the fact that the game will be played on the field of a premier Slovenian football team. Hopefully even in the presence of some Wolves fans, as there is a substantial Hungarian minority in the region, the game will be played as part of the Lendava Bowl, which the Silverhawks plan to make annual. The Silverhawks’ have planned plenty of special features, such as a live performance of the national anthem, various contests for the spectators etc. The Silverhawks also announced they will broadcast the game live! Available on their website and CEFL Online.
The game itself is hard to predict. Ever since the Silverhawks lost their top three american players, that all played key parts in their three wins this season, the opinion is they will not be able to handle the Wolves. The players were forced to leave due to improper registration with local authorities and can’t come back until next season. The Wolves, although traditionally without import players, have for years been playing on a level similar to that of the Silverhawks this year, so it’s easy to understand why.
In any case, the Silverhawks have two wins and a win here could book them a trip to the finals. Could, although it’s almost a certainty that they will not lose to the Cavaliers. In that case, the Wolves (1-2 currently) would get their third loss, would not be able to get over three wins, and would need to count on the winless Istanbul to steal a win in Ljubljana.
This makes it clear that the Wolves need to win both – so there will be no holding back on Sunday.
Note: this week’s game in Belgrade has been postponed due to technical problems.
