Fight for the finals
29 May 2014An exciting game was seen on Sunday in Ljubljana, where Kragujevac Wild Boars managed to take a one touchdown win against the home team, the Silverhawks. The game was broadcast on SportKlub TV, with the coin toss done by an honorary guest, Goran Dragić, a successful NBA playmaker who was welcomed to the Silverhawks family by getting a number 1 game jersey.
The Wild Boars have opened the game better with a field goal by Srđan Ružić after a long drive and haven’t relinquished their lead since. First quarter has ended with a 0:3 score.
At the start of next period, Wild Boars’ quarterback, Ike Whitaker started his dance. This time he was the only star on the field though. With short passes and a long run he got in front of the opponents’ end zone, taking it across the line for his first touchdown on a sneak play from 4 yards. The Silverhawks have answered through Gregor Črepinšek’s runs and Kenric McNeal’s passes to Matic Tomše who brought one in for a touchdown. Then Whitaker stepped up again with a long run and a touchdown pass to Filip Nedeljković. That was too much for the Silvehawks who seemed to take an early break leaving the Wild Boars to score two more touchdowns before the end of the half. Shane Wong ran for one of those from 29 yards and Whitaker passed for another to Nikola Tomić, stopping the score at 7:30 at half time.
Well-rested, Silverhawks opened the third period with a recovered squib kick that hit one of the Wild Boars’ players and scored through Črepinšek’s long run on the very next play, taking only 11 seconds off the clock. By the end of third quarter McNeal had passed for one more touchdown to Tomše, lowering Wild Boars’ lead to 20:30.
Opening the last quarter with persistent runs, Whitaker took the ball again to Silverhawks’ doorstep leaving it to Ivan Živanović to kick the field goal from 31 yards. Silverhawks spotted their chance here with three of McNeal’s precision passes to tremendous Tomše ending at the oposing 5 yard line where ramrod Črepinšek took over again and landed it for a touchdown. The Silverhawks were on Wild Boars track lowering the diferential to 6 points. Then Whitaker answered the call again, capping his superb performance with a three run drive, getting to half field after two and finding the end zone from there on the third one. The Silverhawks were left with enough time only to score through an excellent Črepinšek again, ending the game with a score of 33:40.
Next week is played in Belgrade, where SBB Vukovi greet the Silverhawks, after losing to them in Ljubljana by 15:6. This game will again be broadcast on SportKlub TV on Sunday, 1 June at 14:00 hours.
