Joy for Vukovi, home advantage for Silverhawks
19 June 2010
Vukovi and Silverhawks in the finals!
3 July 2010Saturday will bring best of CEFL football, as four remaining teams in competition will start their play-offs battles for the title.
Starting with 15:00 CET kickoff a bit outside of Ljubljana, CEFL 2010 play-offs will begin with new clash of Silverhawks and Budapest Wolves.
After thrilling 17-13 last-minute victory in Hungary, Wolves have hoped that in last round of regular season they’ll save 2nd position at CEFL standings even after their visit to Slovenia. But, hopes were crushed as Silverhawks’ won 26-10 which was more then enough for them to overtake 2nd seed and also home advantage in semi-finals.
Still, Silverhawks won’t play as usual, in Ljubljana, as they’ve chosen NK Livar ground in Ivančna Gorica, half an hour away from Slovenian capitol. With roofed terraces and quality pitch of “Športni park”, there’s no doubt that host’s leaders like RB Jordan Capitanio and LB Keitshone Dantzler will do their best to earn their club’s first CEFL finals.
With Péter Cseperkáló and László Csizmazia proving that Wolves’ ground attack is still one of the best in region, and with Attila Lendvai’s favorite targets like Csanád Király, Krisztián Piros and Attila Lausch, there’s no doubt that visitors from Budapest won’t give up on their high hopes to be in finals once again, just like in 2007.
One hour later then in Slovenia, Vukovi will start their battle with new Turkish champions, Istanbul Cavaliers.
On Saturday, 16:00 CET, title holders will face Cavaliers for the first time in young, but rich history. Reigning champions haven’t lost a CEFL game since 35-20 loss against Cineplexx Blue Devils in August 2009, but served revenge for it when it was most important – month later, in CEFL finals (39-20).
With 6-0 score in Central European Football League, and second in a row victorious season in Serbian Superleague, which has been won with 40-2 victor over Novi Sad Dukes in country’s finals, Vukovi will face rivals for Turkey for the first time.
Istanbul Cavaliers qualified for the playoffs after their final wild-card match with reigning CEFL runner-ups was cancelled due to Cineplexx Blue Devils’ calendar, which has to be completely re-scheduled because of big floods in central Europe. Blue Devils’ were forced to cancel their clash with new Turkish champions, who defeated Bucharest Warriors 42-10 in CEFL pre-qualifier, so Cavaliers will visit 1st seeder in the first round of CEFL playoffs.
