Cowboys add another import
3 May 2009Blocker rejoins Vukovi
6 May 2009The way the game in Novi Sad went on, the Dukes and the Wolves could’ve skipped three quarters of play and continued to the good stuff. Both teams scored in the opening minutes of the game, but there were no points the rest of the way, until Csaba Majoros kicked the game winning field goal with less than 3 minutes on the clock, for a 10-7 Wolves win.
The Dukes struck first with Marko Đanić returning the opening kickoff for his team’s 7 point lead. Their fortunes didn’t last long, as Ákos Újfalusi answered right back with a kickoff return touchdown of his own. Though Újfalusi is proving to be a dangerous return man, getting his second touchdown of the season that way, the Wolves struggled to score the rest of the way, but so did the Dukes.
What ensued was a struggle to score in the worst way possible, with the Dukes’ high powered offense hitting a wall — Čaba Juhas was picked off three times and they also fumbled once. The Wolves didn’t do much better; they moved the ball well, especially on the ground, but they too squandered away their few chances once they got near the end zone.
Still, the Wolves found a way to score once more, winning the game and saving their season. Maybe it was because they wanted and needed it more, but either way, the playoff battle in their group remains open. Though they are two games behind the Vukovi, they still host the Vukovi who in turn have two games remaining against the heavy favorites from Austria, the Blue Devils.
