Two months ago the Cowboys and the Wolves fought an exciting battle for the Hungarian championship. In the rematch the Wolves won confidently, leaving no doubt that they are in the race for the final again in the CEFL.

The Wolves started impressively as they blocked a punt on the Cowboys’ first drive. From 9 yards it was easy for Obi Mbagwu to score. But the answer was almost immediate by the opponent. After Gábor Kalovits’ big catch Andre Bynoé brought his team to the one yard line and also he was the one who finished the drive with the touchdown. Two drives later Krisztián Piros returned a punt from 35 yards to make it 7-13. On this one Majoros’ field goal was blocked. The first quarter ended with this score, and from the second the Wolves’ dominance became clearer.

Obi Mbagwu once again found his way to the end zone, this time from 40 yards as nobody was able to catch him. After that the Cowboys had to put some score on the board to keep their hopes alive, and they did it. On a long drive Bynoé scored his second rushing touchdown with only a minute left on the clock. But this minute was enough for the Wolves to score again, Attila Lendvai had two spectacular passes. The first one to Csanád Király between three defenders and the second to Mbagwu from 16 yards for the TD with only 2 seconds left.

So the half time score was 14-27 for the Wolves and the home team had some chance to come back, but they couldn’t keep up with the pace the Wolves were dictating.

Though their defense started the third quarter with a touchdown from a fumble, the Wolves were unstoppable from that point on. After a good return Lendvai connected with Király from 50 yards for six. On their next possession Lendvai found once again Király for a touchdown, and this one made it 20-41 after the successful extra.

In the fourth quarter Király’s catch brought them inside the 5 and Norbert Erdélyi’s TD run decided the match. The Cowboys were able to score on the blocked extra as Mihály Bánfi returned the ball from one end zone to the other for 2 points, but it was too little too late for them.

Gábor Németh couldn’t handle the pressure to turn the game over and most of his passes ended up incomplete. The Wolves started to send on the second string players and they managed to set up two more scores. These were rushed by László Csizmazia, who returned from his holiday last week. Both of his runs were from one yard.

The final score was 22-61 for the Wolves, who sent a message to every other playoff team with this performance that they will do their most to reach the final for the second time in a row.
