North and south collide as SELAF resumes play

15 August 2006The Kragujevac Wild Boars have, as expected, recorded their 4th win this season, second over the Sirmium Legionaries beating them 19-0. Under rain and bad weather, the Wild Boars` win didn`t come smoothly, in part because they were missing their first and second quarterback, but it was enough for the team from Mitrovica, which failed to score in their third consecutive match.
The match will be remember by plenty of interceptions and especially fumbles from both sides, and the Wild Boars won because they are, at the moment, still a better team. Besides having their third quarterback Nemanja Trajković in the game, backup running back Predrag Šćekić also saw more time on the field, and also scored the match`s last points.
A bit unusual scoring chart began with a safety when quarterback Milan Nikolić was tackled in his team`s end zone. Kragujevac followed that with a field goal, and then in the second quarter a blocked punt was turned into a touchdown by Dragoljub Živadinović for a 13-0 lead with added two points.
In the second half the Legionaries came out more determined to achieve a good result, but other than, in the end an unsuccessful drive inside the Boars 20 yard line and an overall impression of a tougher play on defense, they failed to achieve much. After a scoreless third quarter, the Wild Boars raised the level of their game, and scored without too much trouble on a Predrag Šćekić run. Until the game end, they tried to score more points, but without success.
Kragujevac`s fullback Veljko Petrović, thinks the biggest reason his team didn`t play as it should was the quarterback problem. “Mitrovica played with a lot of heart, and we won harder than we thought we would. The offense didn`t play the way it should, but I think that`ll improve”, he said.
On the losing team, running back Zoran Lončarević wasn`t too dissatisfied. “Regardless of everything, we came here to win, also realizing that Kragujevac has a strong team, and that they are favored. Our problem is a smaller number of players, but I think we can do better, and that we`ll show we`ll show who the Sirmium Legionaries are.”
