Second semifinal of the Spotklub CEFL Championship is scheduled for this Sunday, 13 June in Switzerland. In this long anticipated duel, Calanda Broncos will host Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns on the Sport Center in Chur, and the kickoff is set for 15:00 CET. Although the Unicorns had the home field advantage as the higher-ranked team, pandemic measures in Germany have led to the switch and the change of venue.

Fans of the CEFL Championship have already met the best Swiss team in the 2019 season, when the Broncos have taken part for the first time and advanced to the finals. That CEFL Bowl XIV was undecided until the last seconds, but the Broncos have finally had to congratulate to the Swarco Raiders on their third straight title.

This wasn’t Broncos’ only international experience because they’ve already participated in the strongest European competitions. Their greatest accomplishment came in 2012 when they won the Eurobowl, the final game of the elite international club team tournament at the time. Swiss championship is starting next weekend, so this CEFL Championship game will be season’s opening for the Broncos.

On the other hand, German teams have never competed in Sportklub CEFL so far. German Football League (GFL) has a very long tradition and is arguably the leading European national championship. For this reason, no first-rate continental competition is complete without the top-class German teams. Sportklub CEFL has long awaited welcoming companies from that European football center into its midst. That has finally happened this season by four-time German champions joining the ranks.

Unicorns are no strangers on the international scene either. Their biggest success was playing the Eurobowl in 2015. German national season has started last weekend and the Unicorns have opened with a big win.

Broncos’ offensive commander is Conner Manning. His most trusting receivers are Lukas Lütscher and Adrian Sünderhauf, as well as Maxwell Gray, who will have a double role as a defensive back too. Ball will be carried by a stable of running backs, of whom the most significant contribution is expected from Steffen Haenelt.

Unicorns are led by a homegrown quarterback, Alexander Haupert. His passes will be directed toward Yannick Mayr and Moritz Böhringer, who was the first player to be drafted to the NFL from a European team with no college experience. He has returned to the Unicorns after a three-year stint on a couple of NFL franchises. First running option is American, John Santiago.

Better rival from this clash will join Swarco Raiders in the final game. CEFL Bowl XV is programmed to take place in a fortnight on 26 June, and the organization will be awarded to one of the finalists.
