Silverhawks win easy, playoff picture set
18 June 2012The this year outstanding Ljubljana Silverhawks host the Budapest Wolves this Saturday evening, in what is maybe their last regular season home game, but likely not their last home game. The Wolves still hold a chance of jumping ahead of the Silverhawks, but the chance is slim. Not because they aren’t able to win, but because they would also need a Silverhawks loss in their last game in Zagreb – against an 0-5 opponent.
But the Silverhawks definitely don’t want it to come to that. They’ve been outstanding this season, winning three out of four games and a win here would guarantee a semifinal home game, something that every team wants.
The game will not be played in Ljubljana, but in Lendava, a city near the Slovenian-Hungarian border, where these two teams already met last year. It was a game that the Silverhawks barely lost, which eventually helped the Wolves reach the championship game. It’s another reason for the Silverhawks to win, as the Lendava Bowl series will likely continue in the future. Additionally, the game starts at 7PM CET, meaning it will be played under lights.
The Wolves won both games over the Silverhawks last year, but it’s quite a new year. The Silverhawks have been the second most dominant team this season and with a little more luck they would’ve been on top of the standings. The Wolves have on the other hand been difficult to predict. They won big, lost big and then sort of settled and beat the one team they were supposed to beat. If the trend continues, the Silverhawks are the clear favorite.
