29 June 2009Serbian CEFL teams to play for their domestic championship
18 July 2009With the Gladiators forced to be a no-show in Budapest for the final week of the spring season, the Cowboys got their third win of the season with the official score of 35-0.
The game that was scheduled to be played on the 4th of July was initially postponed because the Gladiators’ domestic league game was rescheduled for the same weekend. They were supposed to play the Generali Invaders on the 27th of June, but that game was rescheduled because of floods that hit the entire region of Burgenland in Austria.
However, as the Cowboys’ imports were already set to leave Budapest, the team said they would not play the game at a later date, especially because it was already rescheduled once at the Gladiators’ request. Additionally, both the Cowboys and the Wolves had their games scheduled for the spring season, because of their obligations in the Hungarian league — their one remaining game will count for their domestic league and the CEFL — so it was not possible to move the game for the fall season.
The decision was announced by the CEFL Commissioner Igor Gajić, who stated that it was not possible to resolve the issue in any other way.
The Gladiators already finished the spring season in similar fashion last year, when they didn’t travel to Belgrade, losing that game 35-0 as well. However, it didn’t prevent them from winning the title last year.
