IFAF president to watch Sunday’s game

Brotherly love
30 May 2009Similar to the Dukes and the Gladiators matchup, the Vukovi Belgrade hold a 2 game lead in the standings over the Cinplexx Blue Devils, but only because of the two extra games they had on their schedule thus far. Though they still have to win two games to catch up with the Vukovi, it wouldn’t be wrong to say they’ve been the most convincing team this season, winning every game almost effortless and piling up 119-15 point differential.
That’s also the reason why this game should be considered the first step in determining which one of these teams will end up as the best team in the group. The Blue Devils haven’t yet clinched a playoff spot, but considering that they’re more than fulfilling expectations, it’s unreasonable to expect them to lose at least three games and jeopardize their place in the postseason.
They have the best offense with almost 40 points per game and the best defense with exactly 5 point per game allowed. Their quarterback, Bradley Guidry is passing for over 180 yards and 3 touchdowns per game, with no interceptions; he’s been sacked just once. If the Vukovi somehow manage to stop the Blue Devils passing game, there’s always Tino Muggwyler with 458 yards rushing and 6 touchdowns on the ground.
The Vukovi though could have an answer: after struggling on defense early in the year, they’ve showed improvement lately, especially in their latest win over the Wolves. Their defensive lineman Miloš Lišanin has recorded a sack in every game this season, and has become the first player in the history of the league to record a double digit sack number for the year, with three games to spare. With the league’s current leading rusher, Brandon McDowell, leading the offense, they have enough offense as well.
Whether the Blue Devils are still out of their league we’ll find out Sunday from 1PM in Belgrade. The game will start with the IFAF president Tommy Wiking doing the celebrity kickoff and will the next day be broadcast on the Serbian Sportklub. Wiking will attend the game as he is in Belgrade for the weekend visiting the Serbian association.
