24 October 2007With the CEFL Bowl being played by a Serbian and a Hungarian team, Austrian official Michael Ulicny will be the referee of the game.
With Ulicny, two other Austrian officials will form a crew, and both Serbian and Hungarian associations will have two each. The final decision regarding exactly which officials will be on the field will be made in the next two days, but no doubt it will be both associations’ top officials.
With the league expanding from two to four countries, the whole season has been officiated by Serbian, Hungarian, Austrian and Italian (in Slovenia) officials. Practically every international game consisted of joint officiating crews, and the experience has been almost exclusively positive.
Ulicny is one of the most experienced Austrian officials, this being his 19th year on the field. He is also among Austria’s officials with license by the European Federation – EFAF. This will be the 462nd game he will take part in; among those games are nine Austrian Bowls, three EFAF Cup finals and the final of European Junior Championship tournament in Sweden, as well as the same competition in 2002 that took place in Scotland. Of those Austrian Bowls, he was a field judge in Austrian Bowl XXII in 2006.
Last year’s SELAF Bowl referee was Giuseppe Rizzello of Italy, even though two Serbian teams played in the final. This year, however, an all international crew is more in order with a Serbian and a Hungarian team playing for the title.
