11 October 2007If the playoffs weren’t already a special moment this year and in SELAF history, they now most definitely are. The second SELAF semi final, between Vukovi Belgrade and ASVÖ Gladiators on Sunday, will air live on Avala television in Serbia.
After weeks of talks, the decision that one of seven nationally covered television stations in Serbia will broadcast the game live was finalized last weekend.
“Most important [event] to date, because everyone knows how important TV broadcast is, not only in reaching out to new fans, because it already is a TV sport, but also for finding future sponsors for teams”, says president of the Vukovi Goran Nišavić.
Avala is a new television, founded in 2006, and it has shown interest to broadcast American football for a longer period of time. The broadcast on Sunday is a pilot of sorts and if everything goes well SELAF/CEFL will have its games covered in Serbia. The interest extends to both future seasons and CEFL Bowl if the game ends up being played in Belgrade.
“That also makes it easier for televisions abroad to take over the games, and it’s my belief that the future of this sport is in television presence in all countries”, says Nišavić.
For this game there has been no deal nor attempt as of yet to maybe get the game on an Austrian TV station.
“But the possibility exists“, adds Nišavić.
The game on Ada Ciganlija in Belgrade will be aired with 8 cameras, one on a crane and the broadcast will with assistance from SELAF.com feature statistics and graphics including player photos. Covering the game will be Mladen Bašić, Avala’s sports commentator, aided by Dušan Kostić from SELAF.
“Cooperating with a nationally covered television is a capital thing for SELAF and a quantum leap forward. I’m excited and happy to be a part of this, I hope it will be, truly spectacular display”, said Kostić who primarily acts as part of SELAF’s disciplinary comity, but who has already had experience doing live work primarily on local TV stations in Serbia.
