Once again the SELAF summer break is over, and the second half will start with matches between the leagues’ top four teams when, on Saturday, South’s top two teams host leaders of the North conference
Last week’s game in Kragujevac was the last game in the South, and this week in Rudersdorf we’ll have the final game of SELAF’s spring season. The Gladiators host the Budapest Wolves on Sunday in what is their last chance to threaten the Wolves atop the conference North
As we are nearing the end of the first half of the season, it can be said that there have been many surprises in 2007, but not many bigger than the record of the South’s last place team, not to mention the team’s name. On Sunday, Kragujevac hosts Belgrade in what is the last game in the conference South this spring, and also the Wild Boars’ last chance until September to get a win
Two teams currently leading their conferences have thus far played a total of six games, with the Novi Sad Dukes winning all four in the South to already clinch a playoff spot and the Budapest Wolves getting to 2-0 with two convincing wins in two weeks. The game on Sunday will not only feature the only two undefeated teams in SELAF, but it will also be a night game
The Budapest Wolves host the Gladiators, while the Novi Sad Dukes will do the same with the Kragujevac Wild Boars in the second two game weekend in SELAF. Newcomers to SELAF, and by many the favorites in the North conference, will face off for the first time this year, and after just three games Dukes are very close to reaching a milestone in 2007
Despite the Vukovi and the Wild Boars having a combined record of 1-3 thus far in the 2007 season, the match between these two teams will remain a fierce competition until proven otherwise. The match on Saturday, starting at 5PM in Belgrade, continuous the rivalry
With the Ljubljana Silverhawks playing in Novi Sad and the Vukovi going to Rudersdorf for an abroad game also, there will be two matches in SELAF this week. Both will be played on Saturday, with the Gladiators-Vukovi game starting at 3PM, and the game in Novi Sad one hour later
On Sunday, Ljubljana will play their second game of the season and their second home game when they host the Kragujevac Wild Boars from Serbia. The match that will start at 12:30 and be played at rugby stadium Oval in Ljubljana represents the first inter-conference match in SELAF’s new conference scheme
