Droughns: It will be tough for Vukovi in the Finals
15 July 2010Vukovi are champions again!
18 July 2010Ljubljana Silverhawks and reigning champions Vukovi Beograd will clash on Sunday July 18 from 16:00 CET in 2010 CEFL finals.
Despite this will be Silverhawks’ debut in Central European Football League finals, their goal is high: if they are already making a history, they want to do it with style. And they have a special weapon for it: 2010 CEFL Offensive MVP Jordan Capitanio, Silverhawks’ feature running back.
“I’m very proud because of that award. But, there is even a bigger title to win and that’s – CEFL championship. We know that we are big underdogs, but we’ll give them a big fight”, Capitanio said ahead of Finals.
Meanwhile Vukovi will have their own MVP playing for the third CEFL trophy in club’s history. For the second consecutive time coaches have chosen Vukovi’s DE Miloš Lišanin as best defensive player in the league.
“It’s always nice to pick up an award, but as a team we have to do our best on Sunday to receive much important trophy. Ljubljana raised their quality, they’ve brought some new players and that’s a special occasion for us, as it’s always better to face stronger then weaker rivals as you can see who you really are in those type of games”, Lišanin said.
Vukovi’s defensive leader will once again face Silverhawks’ RB Capitanio, whom he met twice this year already. Despite scoring twice while gaining almost 300 yards, hosts’ running back didn’t achieve a victory with his team against reigning champions. Lišanin hopes it will stay the same after 2010 CEFL finals.
“Silverhawks are much better then before, and if we don’t start the game strong enough, everything could happen. Of course, there will be a bit of a special moment for two of us, this year’s MVPs. We’ll surely want to see good old ‘who’s better?’, but, of course, we’ll do all we can for our teams. Hopefully, Vukovi will be victorious once again”, Lišanin added.
On the other hand, there are high hopes in Ljubljana, too. Silverhawks’ president and head coach Uroš Valant acknowledges that it will take more than usual performance to stop Vukovi’s winning streak.
“We are all pleased to be in the finals, but we also know very well who we are facing this time. We’ve never defeated Vukovi and of course they’ll have bigger chances for the title. Still, our players are very motivated, but they must avoid every single mistake if they want to win. And to play without mistakes is really, really hard. Vukovi have much more experience in games like that, so it will be a tougher task for us. But, American football is a sport which allows us to say that everything is possible in it. We’ll do our best, we’ll play from our hearts and hopefully fans will enjoy in our performance”, said Valant.
CEFL 2010 Finals will be true spectacle, with one of best acrobats among cheer leading groups, “Frogs”, having their show during half-time, while hip hop singer Spinz will entertain audience at NK Livar’s stadium in Ivančna Gorica. But, that won’t be all that supporters will be able to enjoy in during CEFL 2010 Finals.
Silverhawks will host their founder, Michale P. Hurley, who worked in Slovenia during 2001. when at his call at Faculty for sport seven guys answered and came to a meeting. Them, and their friends, founder Silverhawks soon after and played their first game against Venezia Mariners in 2002. Hurley was head coach until 2004 when he moved to Sarajevo, and this will be a chance for him to see his Silverhawks’ development in years that came after his department.
As Hurley is member of Ljubljana Silverhawk’s Hall of fame since 2008, he’ll have an honor to conduct coin toss before the kick-off, which is schedule for Sunday, July 18, at 16:00 CET. The cost of a ticket to see two best CEFL teams in 2010 is just 4 Euros. If you aren’t available to join Silverhawks and Vukovi on Sunday, you can watch them live on Slovenian Šport TV (Š1) and on Serbian Arena Sport TV (Arena 4).
