Vukovi quarterback meets US vice president

A win is what counts
24 May 2009Next week we’ll see one less unbeaten team when the Blue Devils come to Belgrade, but this one will end a different kind of streak. The winless Thunder will on Sunday travel from Zagreb to Ljubljana to play another winless team, the Silverhawks. The game will be played at NK Jezero field in Medvode.
The Silverhawks started the season with much hope, and though they lost their opening game, it was only a late game touchdown that gave a heavy favorite the win on their turf. Still, their hopes came tumbling down with an almost stunning loss to the Cowboys, and after an expected loss in Hohenems, they now sit at 0-3, with at least one win less than they expected, and two less than what they had hoped.
It might not be over yet for them, as they have some hope of beating the Cowboys next week, which would end the spring season. It would have to start against the Thunder, and that’s not a bad way start, considering they never lost to the team. Though they played just one competition game between them — last year’s season opener for both teams — the two teams played many times in friendly games, with the Hawks getting all the wins.
Zagreb of course has no wins at all — although the schedule wasn’t in their favor, in the two games at home this season they failed to show that this year would be a better one. Maybe against the Wolves in their first game, but not really against the Vukovi in their last. Sine nobody really counted on them to fight for the playoffs, saying that with only one remaining playoff spot in their group — and that only theoretically — doesn’t mean much. But this, along with the Cowboys game in a month, has been their playoff since the start of the season, and their biggest chance for a win.
Predictably, both teams’ biggest weakness has been the offense. Zagreb managed only two scores in two games and those came when the game was well out of hand, and the Silverhawks’ new attempt to find a quarterback on their own team was unsuccessful. A pretty game is not something to look for, but maybe not a strong defensive performance either, since both teams showed they have players capable of escaping the defense from time to time.
With the Silverhawks having some hope remaining, and the Thunder fighting for their first win, the game features two motivated teams, despite their 0-5 combined score.
