A truly amazing experience
19 July 2012The SBB Vukovi Belgrade and the Ljubljana Silverhawks received an extra recognition on Thursday. More specifically, one player from each team was recognized as the best league player for 2012: quarterback Lance Kriesien as the best offensive and linebacker Desmond Hendricks as the best defensive player.
Kriesien led the SBB Vukovi to a 6-0 record accomplishing something that no other player has done before — he led the league in both passing and rushing. After five starts, he put up 1171 yards with 12 touchdowns and no interceptions through the air and also 639 yards with 3 scores on the ground.
Hendricks is now a two time winner, after also winning last year. He didn’t play in all the games this season as well, but that didn’t prevent him from finishing with 49.5 total tackles, which was league best. He had 43 solo and 13 assisted tackles, 9 of which for loss and 3 sacks. Unlike last year, he also recorded an interception, which he returned for a touchdown.
Both won in a landslide, with just four other players total winning one vote. Bojan Justin and Anthony Gardner of the Silverhawks received one each as offensive; Nemanja Lazarević and Miloš Lišanin got one as defensive players.
Hendricks is not the first player to win back to back defensive MVP trophies, as Lišanin of the Vukovi accomplished the same in 2009 and 2010. Kriesien follows a string of Vukovi quarterbacks that did win. Andrej Tasić won in 2006, Jordan Green in 2008 and Vinnie Miroth last year.
