Ljubljana too strong for Zagreb
1 April 2012SBB Vukovi crush their Serbian rival
11 April 2012The SBB Vukovi host the Ljubljana Silverhawks on Saturday in Belgrade starting from 1PM, and the Cineplexx Blue Devils host the Budapest Wolves starting an hour later. The game in Belgrade will also be broadcast live on Sportklub Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia, Macedonia, Bosnia and at a later time on other Sportklub channels.
As, for the most part, expected, the 2012 season has in the early weeks proved itself as one of the best and most competitive to date. This weekend, with the current top teams playing against each other, could also prove a strong indication in which direction the season will go. Not only that, it will be the third game for almost all teams.
Between the two, it’s difficult to choose which should be considered game of the week. The champions host the Silverhawks, a team that showed plenty of promise in their one big win over Zagreb. The difference however in this game will be, that their American imports have finally been cleared to play: Anthony Gardner will lead the offense as quarterback, while the league’s best defensive player last year Desmond Hendricks returns as linebacker. Not a coincidence for this game.
“It’s not a secret they’ll play in this game. That’s why we got them”, says team president Uroš Valant.
The Silverhawks are the last team to beat the Vukovi – can they be the first to win in Belgrade after 2006?
The Blue Devils host the Wolves in a different mood than what they had expected a couple weeks ago. The Wolves’ big win in Budapest was the first surprising outcome of the season – and that it was so convincing, 36-14, casts a different light on both teams’ preparation for the game.
In case of the same record at the end of the season, the point differential could be key – in this regard, the Devils are surely planning not only to win, but also make up for the big loss a month ago.
They have brought in Andrew Blakley, a new receiver from the US, who will play.
Both home teams hold an edge over their opponents – if for nothing else, because they play on their turf. But that it is one of the most competitive weekends that one can have in the CEFL is definitely true.
